Mazaya Qatar Training Course on Islamic Finance winds up with certification ceremony at lunch event

Mazaya Qatar Real Estate Development Company welcomed all the participants from its Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) Islamic Finance training to a lunch event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha, to distribute participation certificates and to celebrate the completion of the course.

The event came two weeks after the conclusion of the training course on Islamic Finance, which was held in cooperation with the AAOIFI, from 11th to 14th March, 2012, at the Gloria Hotel in Doha.

At the event, Mazaya Qatar CEO Mr. Seraj Al Baker and Dr. Ali Al Qaradaghi, Secretary General of the International Union for Muslim Scholars and Mazaya Qatar Shari’a Board Vice Chairman and Executive Member distributed certificates to the participants.

Dr. Al Qoradaghi congratulated Mazaya Qatar on its organization of the AAIOFI training course, and spoke about the important role Mazaya Qatar was playing in improving the Islamic Institutions in Qatar.

Mr. Qasim Mohammad Qasim, the CEO of ALLIED International and United Consultants paid his thanks to Mr. Seraj Al Baker, and said he looked forward to this being the first of many such initiatives in the country.

The course itself has been acclaimed as a genuine success. It was the first ever event of this type held in Qatar and involved more than twenty attendees from various Qatar-based financial institutions which are compatible with the provisions of Islamic Shari’a. The training session over 11th to 14th March focused on the responsibility of the controller and legal auditor, as well as the professional skills with respect to compliance in Shari’a standards, and revision of the process in the Islamic banks and the international finance industry.

Conforming to the provisions of Islamic Sharia, Mazaya Qatar took the initiative to organize and sponsor this event due to its belief in the importance of this training course and the added value extracted by its members and participants. This training also acts as an important service for developing the staff and growing the Islamic Shari’a-based business within the community.

The Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institution is an international non-profit organization, which undertakes the preparation and issuance of financial accounting standards, auditing, control, business ethics and the Shari’a compliance of Islamic financial institutions in particular, and the banking industry and Islamic finance in general.

As part of its endeavors to develop this industry’s capacity and upgrade governance structures in its institutions, the organization also organizes several programs of vocational training (in particular, the Islamic Legal Accountant Program and Corporate Compliance Program, and the Controller and Auditor Legal Programs).

The Authority is an independent entity with a membership of over 200 financial institutions from more than 45 countries across the world, including central banks, Islamic financial institution, and other institutions that are actively involved in the Islamic banking industry.

After certificates were awarded, Mr. Seraj Al Baker said: “I would like, on behalf of Mazaya Qatar, to thank Dr. Qoradaghi and Mr. Qasim Qasim for their expertise, dedication and interest in what we are trying to accomplish here. We are also planning to play a role in future events as a Shari’a observant company, and we look forward to working with these gentlemen again on such an important initiative”.
