In line with Qatar National Vision 2030 Mazaya Qatar joins founding members of Qatar Green Buildings Council

Mazaya Qatar Real Estate Development Company (QSC) announced that it has joined the list of founding members of the Qatar Green Buildings Council (QGBC), an independent non-profit organization committed to developing a sustainable approach to the design and development of buildings in Qatar, supported by Honorary President Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, as well as the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (Qatar Foundation).

Mazaya Qatar’s QGBC membership forms part of its belief in the necessity to maintain the environment, and its commitment to sustainable environmental practices in the interest of preserving it for future generations. The company’s initiative is, also, part of a policy that aims to implement environmental concepts in its development and construction operations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ahmed Al Shafi, Mazaya Qatar’s Public Relations and Marketing Manager, said: “As a real estate developer operating in the Qatari market, Mazaya Qatar is required to contribute to making this vital national project a success. This project is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and is aimed at enhancing Qatar’s position as an advanced country that is able to achieve sustainable development while securing prosperity and high standards of living for its people and the generations to come.

“It is a great honour for Mazaya Qatar to be a founding member of the Qatar Green Buildings Council. Through this membership, we will strive to achieve Qatar’s vision, and to contribute to realizing the sought-after objectives of environmental safety and sustainability. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those supporting the Qatar Green Buildings Council for giving us the opportunity to be a member of this important and constructive project,” he added.

The Qatar Green Buildings Council will provide membership programs to enhance green buildings initiatives, and will adopt high level professional development programs that aim to spread awareness among developers on green practices and technologies, guide and assist the development and construction sector, and find the best ways to proceed with plans for the future of Qatar. Membership to the QGBC will provide a chance to join, support and communicate with a global network of green buildings exerts and developers.

Qatar is a new member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC), which represents over 50% of global construction activity bringing together 15,000 companies and organizations worldwide. To date, there are 16 countries worldwide setting up their own Green Building Councils with the aim of joining the WGBC’s current list of 12 member countries.
